No one likes to have bugs in their home, but there are definitely some bugs that are more harmful than others. On the top of most homeowners list of unwanted pests, you can find termites. The problem with termites isn’t just the speed at which they destroy wood, but also the way they can go undetected for a long time while they establish a home inside of your home. This means that you will need to be extra vigilant to keep an eye out for any signs of an infestation, as well as being careful not to unwittingly inviting them into your home.

If there are wooden features of your home that are touching the ground, this should be taken care of right away, since it will allow the termites easy access. You should also avoid having old wood or firewood stored near your home since the termites could already be living in there, and then move on to your home.

Keep an eye out for termites swarming around outdoor lights in the spring, and see if you find their wings left behind on windowsills and other surfaces. This could indicate that there already is a mature colony near or inside your home.
